This project covered the conceptual redesign-process of Svenska Kraftnät's (SvK) control room at Råcksta, Stockholm during the fall of 1998. The Man-Machine Systems Research division at IFE and Halden Virtual Reality Centre collaborated with SvK on this project.
Several concepts were realised in virtual control room and tested out on the basis of human factor guidelines and SvK's requirements. These different VR models were converted to VRML, enabling the virtual environments to be viewed on PCs using free software. These VRML models were e-mailed to SvK for comments and feedback, which in turn resulted in development of new refined VR models. These interactions between SvK and IFE contained typically 15 - 20 steps, before the appropriate design was chosen.
